Got a short one for you today my little snowflakes. Please take note of this recently published study. Have a safe Halloween !
Credit card users buy junk food, cash-payers get more healthful fare. According to a team of researchers who have published their findings in this week's issue of "Journal of Consumer Research".
Over a six-month period, the researchers analyzed the shopping habits of 1,000 households. They found that those who used credit or debit shopped much more impusively than their cash-carrying counterparts. This casual impulsivity lent itself to consuming unhealthful foods. The authors of the study (based in Cornell, State University of New York, Binghamton and State University of New York, Buffalo) believe the "pain of cash payments are psychologically more painful than card payments and this pain of payment can curb the impulsive responses to buy unhealthy food items. They also suggest that there may be a correlation between how we pay for food and obesity in the U.S., noting that 40 percent of all purchases in the U.S. were paid with credit in 2006, and that 34 percent of Americans are obese. Some food for thought, I think ! Good Luck...
