What Is The 7-Keto DHEA Supplement??
7-Keto DHEA is a non-hormonal form of DHEA.
What does that mean to you? Well, dehydroepiandrosterone,
or DHEA, is a hormone produced by the adrenal glands. DHEA is present
at birth, and declines as we get older. The substance 7-Keto DHEA is
produced by the body when it metabolizes the hormone DHEA. 7-keto DHEA
is not metabolized by the body as an estrogenic or androgenic hormone
or steroid. According to WebMD, supplementing with 7-Keto DHEA will
not increase the level of steroid hormones in the blood. However, supplementing
with 7-Keto could have positive health benefits. 7-Keto helps improve
metabolism, and helps with healthy sexual function. This supplement may
increase lean muscle mass in the body, as well as reduce the signs of
aging. 7-Keto DHEA can improve lean body mass by reducing cortisol a
stress hormone that is immune suppressive and catabolic. (eats muscle)
7-Keto DHEA has also been shown to increase thermogenesis, which is your
body's need to burn calories. By activating thermogenic enzymes,
7-Keto has been shown to safely increase the basal metabolic rate and
burn calories more rapidly and continually throughout the day, even
while resting, as well as inhibit the storage of fat within the body.
Some
scientists believe this reduction in DHEA levels relates directly to
the decrease in physical and athletic performance many people experience
as they get older. DHEA is the most prevalent hormone in the human
body but as we age, levels of this important hormone decline. 7-Keto
DHEA is a derivative of DHEA, however, the main difference is it does
not convert into the sex steroids, Testosterone and Oestrogen. It's a
biological compound produced in our own bodies. This compound is
extremely important for the growth and development of the human body,
and as the body's production of this substance decreases with age, the
signs of aging begin to appear like weight gain, wrinkled skin, loss of
muscle, loss of cognitive function, and loss of libido. Produced in the
adrenal glands, brain and skin. There are about 150 DHEA metabolites,
and 7-keto seems to be one of the most valuable among them. Now
I can't nail down the study myself, but livestrong.com claims that
7-keto supplementation increases acyl CoA-oxidase by 128%, malic enzyme
by 860%, and glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase by 138%. A
double-blind, placebo-controlled study on 30 overweight adults showed a
6.3-lb. decrease in body fat, compared to 2.1 pounds placebo. More of
the weight lost was body fat in the 7-keto group. Thryroid hormone was
elevated, but no other side effects were reported. Paired with diet and
exercise, 7-keto has been shown to accelerate fat loss threefold, let
me say that again threefold, without any stimulant effect on the body. The
Minnesota Applied Research Center performed a four-week human clinical
trial to determine the effects of 7-keto on elderly men and women.
Using 100mg two times a day, the subjects experienced improved immune
function, as well as an increase in immune helper cells, increased white
blood cells and decreased blood pressure. Decreases
in DHEA and 7-keto can also lead to dominance of the stress hormone
cortisol, which can contribute to aging and disease and fat gain. A
Czech study evaluated the effect of 7-keto on markers for heart
disease. Only 25mg per day for five days significantly raised HDL or
good cholesterol. 7-keto may also help to improve brain function by
helping neurons establish contact with others, increasing efficiency in
the aging brain.
Dr. Henry Lardy and associates at the Institute for Enzyme Research at
the University of Wisconsin, found 7-Keto indicates that it may work
through a number of pathways to combat the signs of aging. Helping the
body maintain a healthy weight as we age greatly improves overall health
and longevity and is one of the strongest benefits discovered for
7-Keto to date. Their recent study assessed the effectiveness of 7-Keto
on weight loss and body fat loss. Participants were divided into two
groups; one group received 100mg of 7-Keto twice daily and the other a
placebo. Both groups exercised three times per week. At the end of the
study, researchers noted a statistically significant reduction in body
weight and body fat only in the 7-Keto group. Researchers concluded that
7-Keto was three times more effective than diet and exercise alone in
promoting weight and fat loss.
As
far as the immune system, another study I found examined 7-Keto's
ability to support immune system function by examining Interleukin 2
(IL2) which is a substance produced by T lymphocytes that cause an
increase of disease fighting white blood cells. White blood cells were
taken from healthy volunteers and introduced into a solution that
contained 7-Keto for 24 hours. When the cultures were tested for
heightened IL2 production. 7-Keto was shown to increase IL2 production
by a statistically significant 68%. So it looks like 7-Keto:
can enhance immunity
increase production of Interleukin-2 and white blood cells
cardiovascular health: reduce risk of heart disease, heart attack and stroke.
Well
it looks like to me if weight loss, immune system function, brain function, remaining
youthful, or lowering your cholesterol are any of your concerns, 7-Keto
just might be a right choice for you. I know it is for me. There are no
known side effects associated with 7-Keto DHEA, however, should you
